On Tuesday (May 20), the 31-year-old ‘Baby’ singer shared pictures from Hailey’s Vogue shoot to Instagram, captioning them with a surprising confession: “Yo this reminds me when Hailey and I got into a huge fight. I told Hails that she would never be on the cover of Vogue.

“Yikes I know, so mean,” he continued. “For some reason because I felt so disrespected. I thought I gotta get even…”

Bieber then pivoted into a deeper reflection on their relationship: “I think as we mature we realize that we’re not helping anything by getting even. We’re honestly just prolonging what we really want which is intimacy and connection.

“So baby u already know but forgive me for saying u wouldn’t get a Vogue cover cuz clearly I was sadly mistaken,” he concluded.

The post was meant to be romantic, but fans were not having it.

“A simple congrats would’ve been fine, I fear,” one commented. Another went in harder: “Imagine giving backhanded microaggressive compliments to the person who stood by you when you were getting dragged through mud…FREE OUR GIRL.”

A third user labeled the post “bizarre,” while a fourth criticized: “You just stole her moment. All the attention is on you — hope you’re happy now.”

However, not everyone was dragging the ‘What Do You Mean’ musician. Some praised his honesty, with one user saying: “So glad u shared that message [with] the world[…]despite the lack of understanding from most. Your intent was definitely inspiring and a way to show personal growth.”

“Growth is a human experience. This is authenticity and I respect it.” A second shared, while one more added: “Everybody acting like they have never had a fight with their spouse before…. we encourage the fake life we see on the gram. It’s so sad… leave the guy and his wife alone!!!”

Bieber eventually deleted the caption and replaced it with a string of emojis.

The ‘Sorry’ singer has been married to the 28-year-old Rhode founder since 2018. They share a son named Jack Blues.

In the Vogue interview, Hailey opened up about a terrifying birth experience with her son, who was born in August 2024. “Giving birth was the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” she said. “That s*** was so crazy. That was not fun. They broke my water. I went into labor and I labored for a few hours. No epidural, nothing.”

Things got worse after Jack’s arrival, as she had a postpartum hemorrhage, adding: “Which was a little bit scary… You start to get a little freaked out.”

She also spoke candidly about the pressure of postpartum life under the spotlight: “Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I’ve ever gone through in my life, and learning a new version of myself is very difficult,” she said.

“And to be doing that all the while going on the internet every day and people being like, ‘They’re getting divorced’ and ‘They’re this’ and ‘They’re not happy,’ it is such a mindf***, I cannot even begin to explain it. It’s a crazy life to live,” she shared.

Hailey previously addressed the swirling divorce rumors in a July 2024 W Magazine interview: “People have made me feel so bad about my relationship since day one. ‘Oh, they’re falling apart. They hate each other. They’re getting divorced.’ It’s like people don’t want to believe that we’re happy.

“I used to try to act like it hurts less and less,” she added. “But I realize that it doesn’t actually ever hurt any less.”

As for how she copes, the mom-of-one credits her husband’s experience with fame. “He was like, ‘Baby, trust me, I’ve been here before many, many times. You’re not going to win. There is no winning.’

“I’ve learned so much from Justin, really. He’s been doing this literally since he was a child, and he has had to face the most scrutiny of any person that I know,” she added.
